Job description

General Lab

• Conduct lab polymerization cooks, paint mixing and application tests, coating mixing and application, construction chemical application tests, adhesive mixing;
• Emulsion polymer, Paint, Coating, Wood coating, Construction, adhesive formulation research and development work;
• Discuss technical details of polymer formulations with Development Chemist AO Australia, R&D Manager AO Australia, TS Manager VN, Sr TS Chemist VN, Sr Polymer Chemist VN, Technical R&D Supervisor VN, VN Chemists and staff regarding raw materials and procedures;
• Prepare clear and concise reports on activities, including monthly reports;
• Perform any other duties as assigned from superior.

Polymerization R&D Specific

• Run DOE options for lab cooks per plan from allnex Australia;
• Emulsion polymerization, wet lab techniques, and chemical handling;
• Polymer characterization by standard analytical techniques: particle size, molecular weight, MFFT, Tg, etc. Evaluations of end-use polymer and coating material –both chemical and physical properties, costings Troubleshooting and problem solving of basic experimental chemistry problems and experimental designs;
• Recording ,analysis, charting, reporting of data, including use of instrument-software and PC-based software, AIMS project system;
• Communication with customers, sales, higher level managers, and presentations/participation in team meetings Help keep the recipes and MI’s secure and in proper file and order.

Application Tests/Technical Service Specific

• Paint formulation research and development work. Application tests for new product development projects. Evaluation of competitors‘s products in benchmarking works. Application tests for quality issues in production;
• Troubleshooting and formulation improvements for customer’s application issues and complaints. Conducting paint spray applications at the lab;
• Support sales team for projects in terms of application tests;
• Communication with customers, sales, and presentation of test results, technical reports, launch packs to them. Preparing clear and concise reports on activities, including monthly reports.

Job Requirement

Education & Experience

• Minimum bachelor level chemistry or closely related field, including academic laboratory training in chemical sciences or equivalent laboratory experience;
• Knowledge, basic training, experience in executing laboratory chemical synthesis reactions, coatings testing  and formulation, chemical analyses.

Specific skills

• Very good oral and written English communication and teamwork skills for understanding technology packages and formulations and communications with allnex Australia organization;
• Experience/knowledge of polymer chemistry, paint application testing and materials science and lab techniques is desirable;
• Experience on root cause analysis.
